比家和最爱的更近，
比亲近和最亲近的更近；
比气息更近，
比死亡更近
是耶稣甜蜜的灵。
比所有最近的更可贵，
比亲爱和最亲爱的更可贵，
比视觉更可贵，
比光更可贵
是同耶稣的团契。

Nearer than Home and than dearest,
Nearer than near or than nearest;
Nearer than breath,
Nearer than death
Is the sweet spirit of Jesus.
Dearer than all that is nearest,
Dearer than dear or than dearest,
Dearer than sight,
Dearer than light
Is the communion with Jesus.

早年因司布真（Charles Surgeon）讲道而信主，成为“更深生命教师”。
参加五旬节祷告团，后任伦敦之圣经学校校长。
第一次世界大战时，赴埃及任英军军牧，染疾逝世。
