神的诚实极其广大—基寿牧
基寿牧 Thomas Obadiah Chisholm, 1866-1960
“我们不至灭绝，是出於耶和华诸般的慈爱；是因祂的怜悯，不至断绝。每早晨这都是新的。你的诚实，极其广大。”（耶利米哀歌3:22-23）
圣诗作家基寿牧（Thomas Obadiah Chisholm, 1866-1960），像林肯一样，生在肯塔基州（Kentucky）的木屋里；也像林肯一样，所受正式教育不多，全靠自学，靠赖神的恩典，得有所成就。还有不同的，是林肯中道崩殂，享年不永；而基寿牧得享遐龄。不过，二人对人类有所贡献，又是相同的。
为了生活的需要，基寿牧还只十六岁，就在他读过书的乡村小学作教员。他爱文学，在二十一岁，任当地週报的副刊编辑。他爱慕圣经神的话，也爱慕追求圣洁。这种真诚，殷切的期求，歌唱时仿佛跃出纸上。
二十七岁那年，基寿牧写了“主我愿像你”（O To Be Like Thee）。
莫理生博士（Dr. Henry Clay Morrison后Asbury College校长）赏识这肯追求的青年，介绍他作五旬节前锋报（Pentecostal Herald）编辑。但因健康关系，不得已辞职。
三十六岁时，接受按立为卫理公会巡回牧师。只作了一年，就因健康再度辞职，迁至印地安那州溫诺纳湖（Winona Lake）畔的农庄休养。
早年的疾病，使他不能作专业教牧，卻並沒有致他於死，疾病伴他活下去，而且活得很久。基寿牧写了“为基督而活”（Living for Jesus）的圣诗，最能宣告自己的心志。
1916年，还只五十岁，迁到纽泽西州文崙（Vineland），从事人寿保险经纪。他倒不是由於贪爱现今的世界，走多马的道路，而是像医生路加一样，因为不受雇於人，可以自由作文字事奉。他沒有作发财之想，也沒有发过财。
四分之一世纪过去了。当七十五岁那年，基寿牧写下自己的经历：
从早年我就多病，到现在仍然这样，
因此我的收入一直不算丰富。
可是，我不能不说，守约施慈爱的神，
用许多奇妙的表现，供应我的需要，
使我奇異感恩不尽。
他笔下流露出：“你信实广大”（Great Is Thy Faithfulness），成为基寿牧最为人知的作品。当有人介绍他是这首圣诗作者的时候，他总是谦卑的说：“噢，我只是一只旧鞋！”不过，这平安福音的鞋，载着福音的信息，传扬到全世界。
他作为一个平常的基督徒，随神的引导安排，靜默的以文字事奉爱他的主，他的笔写下从心里涌出的歌颂。他的诗，有的被接受，也有的遭退回；但他並不灰心，更不以成就而骄傲，继续知道他当作工作，工作。
基寿牧一生写了圣诗一千二百首，其中八百首配有音乐出版，二百首成为著名的诗歌。
